Why and when do I have to provide my Social Insurance Number (SIN)?
A SIN is not required if:
You want to search jobs and apply to available positions posted on Job Bank. You can also create a Standard job seeker account without entering your SIN.
A SIN is required if:
By entering your SIN, Job Bank can:
- verify your identity;
- confirm that you are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident;
- ensure that you register only once with Job Bank.
This allows Job Bank to create a safer environment for job seekers and employers by making sure only real individuals post and apply for jobs. Moreover, job postings advertised on Job Bank are carefully verified to ensure quality.
Job Bank makes sure to preserve confidentiality of users. SINs are not kept on file and Job Bank officers don’t see them.
Job Bank's use of the SIN is collected in accordance with the Department of Employment and Social Development Act and the Privacy Act.
